International Energy Agency Report Indicates Renewable Energy Jump of 45% may be “New Normal”

The International Energy Agency’s recent report reveals that the world’s renewable energy capacity drastically increased in 2020 to 280 gigawatts, the largest annual increase since 1999. In addition, the IEA report indicates that renewable energy is the only sector in which demand increased, and the IEA predicts that this trend will continue for years to come. In order to continue making progress, it is critical that the government continue investing in solar, wind, and other renewables, in conjunction with congressional legislation such as President Biden’s infrastructure plan and extended federal tax credits. These investments in the future of green energy depend heavily on access to and development of land for use in solar and wind power generation, as well as storage and transmission.
